Southern Pine KDAT Decking
TIP: It is easy to take care of your deck! Most pressure treated deck surfaces are replaced because of appearance, not decay. A simple annual cleaning and application of water repellent will keep your deck looking terrific for decades.
FYI: Tiger Claw hidden deck clips are a low cost upgrade for a high class looking deck. The Tiger Claw TC-1 is the only hidden clip specifically designed for wet pressure treated deck boards. The Tiger Claw TC-1 pins each board along one edge and allows the board to expand and contract naturally - without creating stresses that can later develop into cracks and other problems.
TIP: The biggest benefit to wood that has been kiln dried after treatment (KDAT) is that it is dry enough for immediate sealing. When using any KDAT lumber it is important to keep it dry until installation! Then get it coated as soon as possible. If it is exposed to rain or ground moisture, you will need to wait for the wood to dry before finishing, just like with regular pressure treated wood.
FYI: Nominal lumber dimensions are the measurements prior any machining. For example look at 2x4 and 1x6. The actual dimension of lumber is almost always less than the nominal dimension. A 2x4 is actually 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" and a 1x6 is actually 3/4" x 5.5". The only time nominal and actual dimensions are the same is in rough cut lumber. Off the saw, lumber is it's full dimension.
