Cypress is the Southern Cedar! Cypress heartwood contains naturally occurring preservative called cypressene, making it resistant to insects, rot, decay, and other damaging elements...no chemical pressure treating required! The most recent data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service shows that almost 2-1/2 times more cypress grows than is harvested each year in its 13-state growing region. Cypress is usually milled and worked very close to the logging source minimizing the environmental costs of transportation. Cypress readily accepts paint and stain, offering a variety of finishing options. Its original honey-like hues can be maintained by applying a clear sealer, even No-VOC or Low-VOC coatings furthering, its environmental benefits. It can even be left uncoated and though its outdoor service life will be shorter, it will weather naturally to a natural and attractive grey finish. Cypress is suited for both exterior and interior applications ranging from siding and decking to paneling and flooring, and everything in between.
WOOD IS GREAT as a building materialand and has terrific environmental credentials.
It can take 126 times more energy to make products from aluminum, glass, plastic, cement or brick than from wood.
Virtually every part of a log is used as lumber or byproducts, and finished products are re-useable, recyclable and biodegradable.
Healthy trees reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by removing carbon dioxide to use as building blocks for wood, storing carbon and releasing oxygen in the process. Conversion of wood into products such as structural beams, window frames, flooring, furniture, cabinetry and doors continues the long-term sequestration of carbon.

Pecky Cypress is defined by the unique holes that are caused by a specific fungus when the tree is alive. Once the tree is cut the fungi die and a beautiful unique lumber is left. Once thought of as trash, pecky cypress has become increasingly popular.
